Category Carousel — features & options

The Category Carousel widget shows the same term cards as the Category Grid, but in a swipeable, single-row slider with arrows, dots and optional autoplay. Use it when you want a compact, scrollable “browse by category” strip instead of a full grid.

Where: Elementor editor → search the widget panel for Category Carousel (Tiger Elements category).

What it does

Category Carousel queries a taxonomy and renders one slide per term, powered by Tiger’s bundled Swiper engine. The Query and Card options are identical to the Category Grid — only the layout differs: instead of a Columns/Gap grid, you get a Carousel section.

Choosing which terms show (Query)

Exactly as the Category Grid: pick a Taxonomy, a Source (all terms, top level, children/descendants of a term, or the context-aware “current” options), optional Parent term, Include only / Exclude lists, Hide empty terms, Order by / Order, Number of terms and Offset.

Card content

Also shared with the grid: Show image + Image size, Title tag, Post count (hidden / beside title / badge on image), Show description + Description words, Show “read more” + Read more text, and Card link (whole card to the term archive, or no link).

Carousel behaviour

The Carousel section replaces the grid layout controls:

  • Slides per view — responsive; defaults to 4 on desktop, 2 on tablet, 1 on mobile.
  • Gap (px) — spacing between slides.
  • Autoplay and Autoplay delay (ms) (default 3500).
  • Transition speed (ms) (default 600).
  • Loop — wrap around from the last slide to the first (on by default).
  • Pause on hover — halt autoplay while the cursor is over the carousel.
  • Arrows and Dots — toggle the prev/next arrows and pagination dots.

Styling

The Card, Media and Typography style sections match the Category Grid. Carousel adds an Arrows & Dots style section: Arrow color, Arrow background and Active dot color.

Tips

  • On mobile, 1 slide per view with dots gives the cleanest touch experience; keep arrows for desktop.
  • Turn on Loop plus Autoplay with Pause-on-hover for an inviting, self-advancing strip that still lets visitors take control.
  • Keep descriptions short (or off) in a carousel — slides look best when every card is the same height.

Troubleshooting

The carousel doesn’t slide.

A carousel only scrolls when there are more terms than Slides per view. If every term fits on screen there’s nothing to advance to.

Autoplay does nothing.

Autoplay is off by default — enable the Autoplay switch, then set the delay. The Pause on hover option only appears once Autoplay is on.

Frequently asked questions

Same data and cards, but presented as a swipeable carousel instead of a static grid — and it is a Pro widget.
