Good popups respect the visitor. Tiger Elements gives you a small set of timing and repeat-limit controls so a popup doesn’t fire the instant a page opens, and doesn’t reappear on every single visit. The two you’ll reach for most are the load delay and the per-visitor display cap.
Requires: Tiger Elements Pro. In the Free plugin this feature appears as an “Upgrade to Pro” card.
Where: the load delay lives on the Triggers tab (On Page Load); the display cap lives on the Targeting tab under Display Limitations; the close and auto-close options live in the popup’s Popup settings panel in Elementor.
Delay before it opens
The On Page Load trigger takes an optional Delay in seconds (default 0, in half-second steps). A short 2–5 second delay lets a visitor take in the page first and feels far less aggressive than an instant popup.
Capping how many times it shows
Turn on Display Limitations on the Targeting tab and set Show up to N times (default 1). Each time the popup opens for a visitor counts toward the limit; once it’s reached, the popup stops appearing for that person. The count is stored in a browser cookie unique to each popup, so:
- The cap is per browser — a different device or browser starts fresh.
- Clearing cookies resets the count (and also resets a “returning” visitor back to “new”).
- There is no “show every N days” or “don’t show again” checkbox — the model is simply “show up to N times,” which covers the common cases cleanly.
Auto-close and closing behavior
You can also control how a popup leaves the screen, from the popup’s settings panel:
- Auto Close — switch on and set Auto Close After (seconds) (1–300, default 5) to dismiss the popup automatically. Great for announcement bars.
- Show Close Button, Close on ESC Key, and Close on Backdrop Click — all on by default, so visitors always have an obvious way out.
- Lock Page Scroll — on by default; keeps the page behind the popup from scrolling while it’s open.
A recommended recipe
- For a newsletter opt-in: On Page Load with a 3–5 second delay, Visitor Type = New Visitors Only, and a Display Limitations cap of 1–2.
- For an exit-intent discount: On Exit Intent (no delay needed — it fires on the exit gesture) with a display cap so it doesn’t reappear on every visit.
Troubleshooting
My popup keeps showing on every visit.
Turn on Display Limitations and set a cap. Without it, the popup is eligible on every page load. Remember the cap is stored per browser, so testing across incognito windows will always look “fresh.”
It reappears after I closed it.
Closing a popup doesn’t permanently suppress it — the display cap does. Set Show up to N times to the number of impressions you want per visitor.
